Realtime Expedites Path to Production

Realtime Expedites Path to Production

Electronics manufacturers are currently experiencing a global shortage of electronic components. This shortage is forecast to last through 2018 and potentially into 2019.  While the market is accustomed to experiencing longer lead times associated with memory chips, FPGAs, and microprocessors, the current shortage is affecting even capacitors and resistors.  Passive suppliers are currently quoting lead times from 20 to 40 weeks.

The explosion of the IOT (Internet of Things) market coupled with increases in automotive, mobile and industrial markets is driving the component shortage as the demand for the parts has grown faster than the component manufacturers’ capacity.  Industry consolidation has aggravated the issue since manufacturers will combine lines or obsolete some parts as they merge with or buy out other companies.  Additionally, ‘allocation’ and the practice of ‘double buying’ are adding to the shortage woes.  When parts go on ‘allocation’, the supplier allows only a certain percentage of each customer’s order to be filled.  As a result, many customers double or triple book their orders to increase their allocation, further compounding the problem.

Proactive Procurement.

4 Ways Realtime can help alleviate these challenges

  1. 1.Help you review your BOM (Bill of Materials)
  2. 2.Identify suitable parts substitutions
  3. 3.Leverage the great relationships we have with component suppliers who can help us secure the parts you need
  4. 4.Identify distributors who are next in line to receive the parts your project requires.
